We will devote this page to mounting the body panels. We will use the new Autofab panel mounts to locate and mount the front fenders and the rear bedsides. The first step is to create some frame work to mount the fiberglass fenders. I am using lightweight mild steel tubing in my construction of the mounting frames.
Here is the rear mount for the front fender. Note the bottom tab is not there yet. We utilized the existing Ford fender mounting on the cab to bolt our fender mount tube structure to.
Above tube structure will support the front of the fender and the grill assembly. We are using 5 Autofab fender mounts for each front fender. 2 in the front and 3 next to the door. Since the fender only weighs about 7 lbs. this should be plenty.
Right side view of the grill support.
Beginning tube structure for the front of the bedsides.
Additional support tube for bedside wheel well mount. Ties back into the beginning frame structure for the front bedside mounts.
Left rear of our bedside frame mounting structure.
Right rear bedside mounting. We are using 3/4 and 1/2 tube in our rear bedside frame. Note how we position the tube close to the panel so our Autofab fender mount plates are utilized. we cut or bend them to shape and fit before welding.
Starting to shape up to a serious looking truck now. |
