HP100 Hood Pin Kits

How do we hold those big truck hoods on going 100+ miles per hour offroad ? How do we keep our fiberglass hoods from cracking the mounts ? What looks trick and does the job ? Urethane hood pin kits made by Autofab !  We start with a 9/16" center pin machined from steel. ( Most pin kits are 7/16 or less) , 2 unfinished jam nuts are included ( these are for welding without zinc plating on them) , 1/4" lock ring clip and optional tether kit (so I don't lose the damn things or forget to put them back in) , special design ureathane grommet (isolates the pin from the part) , 4 stainless steel (no rust) hex buttonhead screws and nilox nuts to complete the hood pin assembly. Check out the 6 colors available for race graphics , custom paint schemes etc. Note: Hood pin kits are sold individually (not in pairs). Some racers use 5 kits on a hood, for instance, 3 across the front and 2 in the rear. Keep this in mind when ordering. Prices are $15 each and $17.50 ea. with leashes.

Here is some shots of my hood pin kits and mounting brackets for my bronco. Might give you some hints on how to properly mount your hood.

Notice I used sheetmetal to construct my hood pin mounting brackets. They are spotwelded to the radiator support. I do this because the core support is sheetmetal and spotwelded throughout and anything thicker could cause the thinner gauge support to crack and break. These mounts have been in use for over 2 years now with no sign of fatigue cracks. They are available in kit form from us !

Most people tend to hurry this part of the job and if you do you will get into trouble. Do not install the grommets and try to mount the hood. Next to impossible unless you are Houdini. Build the pin mounts first then set the hood down onto the pin and mark it. Starting with a 9/16" hole set the hood down around the pin. Now see which way you have to go to get the hood finally aligned by slotting the holes until the hood is straight. Now take the urethane hood pin grommet and center it up over the pin and mark the hood for the hole. This is the secret to getting the job done right the first time. I should know because in 26 years of fabricating  I'm sure to have done it the wrong way more times than you can count.
